ReWind - Harbour Bridge Walk

Image
An artsy black and white capture of an evening walk on the harbour bridge. You can see the harbour bridge on the right and the city on the left amidst all the fast paced action. Actually quite an exhilirating walk from Milsons Point, I wonder why I did not do this before. Will surely be going again soon.. For this scene, I wanted to get the lowest shutter speed on the nicely lit sunny evening and to my dispair found that I did not even have the polarising filter threaded readily onto my wide angle lens. Some quick thinking and I dialled in the lowest ISO of 100, narrowed down the aperture to f/22 to give me a shutter speed of 1/5 of a second to capture this pre-visualised scene.

Opera House - Best Viewpoint in entire Sydney

Image
The view from the surroundings of Macquarie Point is literally to die for. You cannot get a better view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in the same image and what better time to photograph than when the night is young. The best way to get there is to take a walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens enjoying the spring blossoms and the welcome breeze from the harbour. Then slowly make your way to Macquarie's Point in the East. This is certainly one of the best vantage points to capture some breath taking nightscape and not to mention the New Year's eve fireworks too. Image Exposure: 44 secs at f/20, ISO 200, captured with 50mm prime lense. Intentional long exposure to create some smooth texture in the water and the reflections alike.

Sydney Cityscape - Star Trails in the background

Image
Sydney Nightscape from Macquarie Point. If you look closely you could see few star trails, this capture was one of the long exposures I was capturing for star trail photography. Shot at 180 secs exposure, f/16, ISO 200, 22mm focal length

Few more captures from the bushwalk

Image
Few more captures from the bushwalk from the last week.

Waterfall from The Great North Walk - captured using ND filters

Image
As promised here is another one of my recent captures using ND and GND filters. Not a great waterfall but nevertheless one that I could find within easy reach and in perfect seclusion, hidden in one of the bushwalks on the Great North Walk in the hills. Shot on 7D at 60 sec exposure, 17mm focal length, ISO 160, f/20

Surreal Landscape - What a shot!

Image
One of the biggest advantages of having Neutral Density (ND) and Gradual Neutral Density (GND) filters is to find all subjects moving. First you want to spot moving objects and then capture them in the midst of the movement but not as in a freeze shot. The idea is to capture a slice of time rather than a micro second. To explain better, let's think how good it would be if you can capture light during the golden hours of sun rise or sunset on a beautiful beach long enough to make the water look silky smooth and white. How about photographing star trails or car trails in an aesthetic shot with a beautiful architecture in the background. How about lifting an important architecture from the ordinary to Wow..that's amazing with a bit of cloud movement on a perfectly sunny day? Well keep thinking and the possibilities are endless. The point is you can photograph what your naked eyes cannot see normally as our brain does not stack images for a period of time. Cut to the chas

Rocky Beach and a fabulous view

Image
Captured at Bangalley Headland, Avalon. One of the best seascapes I have seen so far. How I wish I was here during sun rise (as it is an eastal coast), shall probably head over one day for a beautiful sun rise. EXIF: EOS7D, f - 17mm, 20 sec exposure, IS0100

Bahai Temple in Australia

Image
Bahai Temple in all its glory from down under taken at an exposure of 20 secs with GradND and ND12 filters.

Avalon Beach - Long Exposure

Image
This is one of my favourite pics which I photographed last week at Avalon. It could not have been a better day as it was quite sunny for the last day of Winter here at Sydney. Also quite a beautiful beach it was with lot of rocks to one side and soft sand to the other. So you could take a pick on where you wanted to be and enjoy, I definitely had a lot of fun clicking. More pics from Avalon to follow, frankly I am not able to decide the best pic as I like most of the ones clicked..stay tuned!

Foggy Morning

Image
I wanted to capture a complex image with nice contrast in lighting, shadows and a great bit of fog adding multiple layers to the scenery. Guess I was not at the right location but still got away with a good capture, but my dream image still remains to be photographed.
