ReWind - Harbour Bridge Walk

Image
An artsy black and white capture of an evening walk on the harbour bridge. You can see the harbour bridge on the right and the city on the left amidst all the fast paced action. Actually quite an exhilirating walk from Milsons Point, I wonder why I did not do this before. Will surely be going again soon.. For this scene, I wanted to get the lowest shutter speed on the nicely lit sunny evening and to my dispair found that I did not even have the polarising filter threaded readily onto my wide angle lens. Some quick thinking and I dialled in the lowest ISO of 100, narrowed down the aperture to f/22 to give me a shutter speed of 1/5 of a second to capture this pre-visualised scene.

Opera House - Best Viewpoint in entire Sydney

Image
The view from the surroundings of Macquarie Point is literally to die for. You cannot get a better view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in the same image and what better time to photograph than when the night is young. The best way to get there is to take a walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens enjoying the spring blossoms and the welcome breeze from the harbour. Then slowly make your way to Macquarie's Point in the East. This is certainly one of the best vantage points to capture some breath taking nightscape and not to mention the New Year's eve fireworks too. Image Exposure: 44 secs at f/20, ISO 200, captured with 50mm prime lense. Intentional long exposure to create some smooth texture in the water and the reflections alike.

Sydney Cityscape - Star Trails in the background

Image
Sydney Nightscape from Macquarie Point. If you look closely you could see few star trails, this capture was one of the long exposures I was capturing for star trail photography. Shot at 180 secs exposure, f/16, ISO 200, 22mm focal length

Few more captures from the bushwalk

Few more captures from the bushwalk from the last week.

Waterfall from The Great North Walk - captured using ND filters

Image
As promised here is another one of my recent captures using ND and GND filters. Not a great waterfall but nevertheless one that I could find within easy reach and in perfect seclusion, hidden in one of the bushwalks on the Great North Walk in the hills. Shot on 7D at 60 sec exposure, 17mm focal length, ISO 160, f/20

Surreal Landscape - What a shot!

Image
One of the biggest advantages of having Neutral Density (ND) and Gradual Neutral Density (GND) filters is to find all subjects moving. First you want to spot moving objects and then capture them in the midst of the movement but not as in a freeze shot. The idea is to capture a slice of time rather than a micro second. To explain better, let's think how good it would be if you can capture light during the golden hours of sun rise or sunset on a beautiful beach long enough to make the water look silky smooth and white. How about photographing star trails or car trails in an aesthetic shot with a beautiful architecture in the background. How about lifting an important architecture from the ordinary to Wow..that's amazing with a bit of cloud movement on a perfectly sunny day? Well keep thinking and the possibilities are endless. The point is you can photograph what your naked eyes cannot see normally as our brain does not stack images for a period of time. Cut to the chas

Rocky Beach and a fabulous view

Image
Captured at Bangalley Headland, Avalon. One of the best seascapes I have seen so far. How I wish I was here during sun rise (as it is an eastal coast), shall probably head over one day for a beautiful sun rise. EXIF: EOS7D, f - 17mm, 20 sec exposure, IS0100

Bahai Temple in Australia

Image
Bahai Temple in all its glory from down under taken at an exposure of 20 secs with GradND and ND12 filters.

Avalon Beach - Long Exposure

Image
This is one of my favourite pics which I photographed last week at Avalon. It could not have been a better day as it was quite sunny for the last day of Winter here at Sydney. Also quite a beautiful beach it was with lot of rocks to one side and soft sand to the other. So you could take a pick on where you wanted to be and enjoy, I definitely had a lot of fun clicking. More pics from Avalon to follow, frankly I am not able to decide the best pic as I like most of the ones clicked..stay tuned!

Foggy Morning

Image
I wanted to capture a complex image with nice contrast in lighting, shadows and a great bit of fog adding multiple layers to the scenery. Guess I was not at the right location but still got away with a good capture, but my dream image still remains to be photographed.

After the rain..

Enough of Vivid Sydney captures. Lets move on and refresh with a lovely pic of a rose I took just after the rain.

Architecture Photography Technique

Image
In this post I thought of shedding some light on a most used technique by architecture photographers. Before doing so, let me ask you how many times have you been to a famous landmark, monument, building etc and wanted to capture the sight (that brought you there in the first place) sans the people. Now the thing with a beautiful piece of art or architecture is that you will always find the place crowded with admirers. Given you are perhaps not going to visit again or perhaps just want to take a memorable image of the place but how good will it be if all those tourists, visitors and admirers were not present. Well hope is around the corner as you can still do that using your camera and lens. Look at the capture below taken at Vivid Sydney, what you don't see is that there were atleast 10 or more people in the shot. So how did I make them disappear or is it an illusion? Well, the trick is to use a tripod and select the view you want. Now the important thing to observe

Opera House - Golden Paint Splashes

Image
Vivid Sydney 2014 - Opera House Projection This is how it would look if you were to splash paint from a paint brush...not that you would want to do. IMHO the best time to see the Opera House. Keep tuned for more projections from this year's Vivid event.

Together Forever - Engrossed in Vivid Sydney

Image
I was lucky to get this beautiful couple just at the right moment when I was searching for an interesting subject in the backdrop of Martin place . Best of all, they were lost exploring the lights of Vivid standing there for time enough to capture this image. Could not perhaps summarize Vivid Sydney better than this! The experience is worth it, if you have not been there already remember to add it to your planner for 2015. More captures of Vivid to follow soon..

Rainbow over concrete - Vivid Sydney

Another one of Vivid Sydney illuminations - rainbow over concrete. Shot at Circular Quay , Sydney.

Vivid Sydney ahoy!

Image
Pictured near The Rocks , I tried to capture the buzz and lot of movement in this picture to depict the feeling of being one in the crowd.

The unnoticed fountain

Image
My tribute to the fountain at Martin Place which goes unnoticed on a daily basis in the hustle bustle of the city. I tried to depict the same through this image, where the silver water of the fountain signifies a silver lining in the lives of ordinary people who are just so consumed by their lives and fail to notice small things that bring a smile on their faces.

Urban Tree Project - Vivid Sydney at Martin Place

Image
A beautiful addition to Vivid Sydney festival this year at Martin Place is the transformation of the MLC building into an urban tree. The tree shoots up from a seed, slowly spreading its branches and before you know the building is covered with lush green leaves providing a natural habitat for birds, insects and butterflies. This light projection has been mastered exceptionally well blending the architecture of the building seamlessly into a living tree. Kudos to the people behind this idea and for highlighting the importance of greenery for the existence of all forms of life. To know more please visit Vivid Sydney website .

Walk with me - Slow Mo Light Trails of Harbour Bridge

Opera House Sails - Paint Splash Projection

Image

Opera House Projection - Paint Splashes from Vivid 2014
Here is one of the Vivid Projections on the Opera House from 2014. The effect of someone sprinkling paint from a brush was nicely captured and projected on to the Sails of the Opera House. Have you got any beautiful nightscapes of Vivid to share, I will be interested to see them :) Keep checking this space for more projections in the coming days and as always would love to hear your comments on my work. For Opera House projections from Vivid 2013. Check out this link . Image EXIF: EOS 7D, 55mm, f/4 at 2 sec exposure, ISO 320

Enter the Ghost House at Vivid Sydney Ghost House at Vivid Enter the Ghost land at Vivid Sydney 2014 . Okay firstly, this is actually not a ghost house. The image was captured during the light show @Vivid festival and the transformation of colour during this 2 second exposure actually gave a spooky feel to it which I liked very much. The clock below the lit windows just adds to the mood. On a second thought this can be used as The Addams Family set, if they ever plan to remake the movie..lol. Image Details: Canon EOS 7D, 17-40mm EF-S L lens, 17mm for 2secs at ISO 320, f/10.

Sky Flower @ Martin Place

Image
Sky Flower is the new addition to Vivid Sydney at Martin Place this year. Petals of Sky Flower unfold in a moving hymn of ever-changing colour accompanied by fast paced and rightly matched music .

To Infinity and beyond..

Captured this moment while photographing one of the Vivid Sydney events at Martin Place, you can see the blue colour cast reflected on the walls from the event.

Let's Play - Vivid Sydney 2014

Image
Lets play the game at Vivid Sydney Festival. The events were truly amazing this time at the Vivid festival and the display of lights literally took many breaths away. There were lot of innovative ideas which made into the foray and I was also delighted that the festival expanded its grounds to include Martin Place as well with a dazzling display of lights. Stay tuned to the blog as I keep adding various captures from Vivid Sydney 2014 to enthrall you. In the meanwhile check out the beautiful photos from Vivid 2013
